Estepona

Estepona is a beautiful traditional Spanish fishing town and holiday resort. Boasting 21km of stunning sandy beaches and over 6 km of hand made marble promenade this resort is the pride of the Costa del Sol.

Known for its international holiday audience, this resort is perfect for holidaymakers looking to escape the “egg and chip” brigade.

The resort is split into 4 main areas, the town, the promenade, the marina and the surrounding band of golf and rural leisure areas, and the best news of all is that they are all in walking distance of each other.

The Town

Estepona town is nothing short of stunning. There are miles upon miles of backstreets and hidden plazas offering diverse shopping facilities, lazy street cafes willowed in trailing bougainvillea, and tapas bars crammed with chatty locals, ideal for an evening stroll before or after dinner.

The town is also a busy residential area with many locals going about their everyday business, so even in the quietest holiday seasons there is lots to see and do. The high street and main pedestrians walk through the centre has just been refurbished so the streets are now lined with shiny rose coloured marble and are home to a fantastic selection of shops (especially for the girls!) There are bargains to be had in every corner, and you will most certainly find it hard to beat the gorgeous selection of leather shoes at unbelievable prices.

The Promenade

The well maintained promenade is one of the best places for a stroll anywhere in the Costa del Sol, and is busy at every hour of both day and night. In the morning take a sporty sprint along the beachfront and join the many joggers, walkers, cyclists and skaters taking in the clean sea air at the start of the day. In the afternoons there are many beach bars and cafes to explore and take shade from the afternoon sunshine. During the evening and into the early hours of the morning the “paseo” is bustling with locals and whole families taking a pleasant stroll together and letting the children play on one of the many activity playgrounds.

The Marina

The “port” is the home of most of the best tourist facilities in Estepona. During the day there are several boat tours, fishing trips and whale and dolphin excursions on offer, and either side of the yachts are the best beaches in Estepona. With lovely soft sand, and crystal clean water, most of the population of the town will be found on the beach until dark as there is so much to see and do.

In the evening the marina comes to life, all the restaurants get busy and the music drifting out from the bars livens the whole place up. Salsa and Spanish dance music are the most popular sounds in the discos and pubs and if you love to dance and try to keep up with the locals, get some rest during the day as the bars don’t start to get busy until midnight, and the dancing goes on till dawn all year round.

Golf and Rural Activities

Surrounding the town, the marina and the promenade, Estepona boasts a range of golf courses to suit every ability and rural entertainment from leisurely walking and picnics through to off road dirt bilking and quads.

Estepona is home to  the following golf courses, The Valle Romano, Estepona Golf, Los Flamingos, El Paraiso, Atalaya Golf, (old and new) and the widely acclaimed Doña Julia which is the only 6 star resort in Europe.

The backdrop to all of these courses and the centre of Estepona is the mysterious Sierra Bermeja, the beautiful red mountain range that changes colour throughout the day. Hire a car and take a drive through the countryside to discover some of the real Spain. There are lots of pretty white villages hidden away in the slopes of the mountain, perfect for a romantic lunch a day away from the hustle of bustle of Estepona life.
